Abstract

This article provides an in-depth analysis of the ecological role of hydropower in the context of sustainable development. Hydropower is presented as a renewable energy source with relatively low environmental impact. The paper discusses the advantages of hydropower, along with environmental risks such as river flow alteration, loss of biodiversity, soil erosion, and inefficient water resource management. The author emphasizes the importance of modern technologies, environmental monitoring, and the promotion of small-scale hydropower plants. Based on international best practices, the article offers recommendations for the sustainable development of hydropower in Uzbekistan.
