Abstract

This article examines the multidimensional impact of polyphonic narrative structure on reader interpretation, drawing on Mikhail Bakhtin’s foundational theory of the dialogic novel and its application in twentieth- and twenty-first-century fiction. By analyzing works by Fyodor Dostoevsky, William Faulkner, Toni Morrison, Junot Díaz, and Yaa Gyasi, this study demonstrates how the simultaneous presence of multiple, often contradictory voices invites readers into an active, co-creative interpretive process. The paper further explores how polyphony functions as a vehicle for social commentary, cultural inclusivity, and the representation of marginalized experiences. Findings suggest that polyphonic texts foster deeper emotional engagement and critical thinking, challenging readers to move beyond passive reception toward participatory meaning-making. The article concludes that polyphony remains a vital and expanding literary strategy in an era of increasing cultural and social diversity.
